The Master said, It is only the very wisest and the very stupidest who cannot change. Ussat aýtdy: “Diňe aňrybaş akylly adam hem barypýatan akmak özgerip (häsiýetini, bolşuny üýtgedip) bilmeýär.” The Master said, A man can enlarge his Way; but there is no Way that can enlarge a man. Ussat aýtdy: “Adam öz ýoluny giňeldip (ulaldyp) biler, ýöne adamy giňeldip (ulaldyp) biljek ýol ýok.” The Master said, To have faults and and to be making no effort to amend them is to have faults indeed. Ussat aýtdy: “Kem-köstli bolup, olary düzetmek üçin hiç bir tagalla etmezlik hakykatdan hem köstlülikdir.” The Master said, When everyone dislikes a man, inquiry is necessary; when everyone likes a man, inquiry is necessary. Ussat aýtdy: “Haçanda birini hemme kişi halamaýän bolsa, muny derňemek gerek, haçanda birini hemme kişi gowy görýän bolsa, bu-da derňelip görülmeli.” Tzu-kung was always criticizing other people. The Master said, It is fortunate for Ssu that he is so perfect himself as to have time to spare for this. I myself have none. Tzu-kung hemişe özgeleri tankyt ederdi. Ussat aýtdy: “Ssu bir bagty getiren, öz kemi bolmansoň özgeler üçinem boş wagty bar. Meniň-ä hiç wagtym ýok.” The Master said, (A gentleman) does not grieve that people do not recognize his merits; he grieves at his own incapacities. Ussat aýtdy: “Asylly adam iller meniň gadyr-gymmatymy bilenok diýip gamlanmaýar, ol öz bärdengaýtmalaryna ýanýar.” The Master said, The gentleman can influence those who are above him; the small man can only influence those who are below him. Ussat aýtdy: “Asylly adam özünden ýokardakylara hem täsir ýetirer, kiçijik adamyň täsiri diňe özünden aşakdakylara ýeter.”
