A resident of the American state of Georgia received a fine of 1,4 million dollars for exceeding the speed limit by 56 kilometers per hour, writes Lenta.ru with reference to People magazine. A receipt with an astronomical fine amount was sent to him by email. The man, not believing it, called the court and asked if it was a typo, but they told him that he must either pay the specified amount or appear in court in person. Arriving at the court, he learned that the million-dollar fine was just a trick by the authorities of the city of Savannah, who had not come up with any other way to summon malicious fine defaulters to court. The program that issues the fine automatically adds 999 999,99 USD plus state fees. The actual amount of fines usually does not exceed 1 thousand dollars.
