Total water reserves in Turkey's Istanbul reservoirs have fallen to 22.99%, the lowest level since 2014. The total reserves in the metropolis's reservoirs are 199 millimeters of cubic meters of water, with the norm being 868.7 million cubic meters. Since the beginning of the month, reserves have decreased by 50 million and the average amount of available water has decreased to four cubic meters per city resident. MIR 24 talks about this with reference to information from the city water supply and sewerage department. According to the department, the amount of precipitation received by reservoirs since the beginning of the year is less than 400 millimeters per square meter. Even in previous dry years, this figure was higher. The media note that in recent years the authorities have been unable to discover new sources of water for Istanbul. There is a risk that city residents will soon be faced with the problem of receiving dirty water from the taps in their homes. In August, Istanbul authorities called on the population to save as much as possible due to the crisis situation in the metropolis. Residents were urged not to wash their cars and use less water for household needs. Since August 20, the water supply for irrigating gardens and lawns has also been temporarily stopped, the source notes.
