Elon Musk's company Neuralink is going to begin testing the first brain implant N1 on paralyzed volunteers, Rambler reported, citing information from the company's website. The upcoming implant trials have already been approved by a panel of independent observers. The company begins recruiting personnel to test the implant on patients with paralysis. The implant is planned to be tested on patients paralyzed due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The trial will take about six years, the number of participants in the experiment is still unknown. The implant will be installed using a robot. The purpose of introducing the implant is to give paralyzed people the ability to mentally control a computer cursor or keyboard. The brain-computer interface implant is planned to be installed in the area of the brain that controls movement. Once installed, the N1 is cosmetically invisible and its job is to record and wirelessly transmit brain signals to an app that deciphers movement intent.
