NEW YORK -- New York's Columbia University says it may establish a campus in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat, RFE/RL's Turkmen Service reports. Robert Hornsby, Columbia University's director of media relations, told RFE/RL that in the past two years Columbia has had a series of educational exchanges with Turkmen government officials. The visits came from Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov's talk at the school in September 2007. Columbia sent its most recent delegation to Ashgabat in March to meet with the officials at the Education Ministry and other education professionals. One Turkmen student has independently matriculated at Columbia University, and Hornsby said in a statement that he hopes there will soon be many more.
